Riley Horan put pen to paper on a new deal

Defender Riley Horan has signed his first professional contract with AFC Wimbledon, marking a major step forward in his football career.

The 18-year-old has been part of Wimbledon’s academy setup for several years after joining from local side Sutton United. Known for his leadership and composure on the ball, Horan captained the club’s Under-18s and became a key figure within the youth system.
His dedication and performances were recognised in June when he was offered his first professional contract with the club. Being a lifelong Dons supporter, the occasion was particularly significant for Horan, as his uncle, John Gannon, had also played for the club.

Reflecting on signing his first contract, Horan said: “It’s an absolute privilege to sign for Wimbledon. I’ve enjoyed a good couple of years with the youth team, and it’s great to have been rewarded for all my efforts, but the hard work starts again now.”
Academy Manager Michael Hamilton praised Horan’s attitude and ability, describing him as “a dominant centre-half who is equally capable with the ball at his feet.” He added that the young defender represents the values expected throughout the club’s pathway.

In August, Horan returned to Walton & Hersham FC on loan, where he will remain until January. The move provides valuable senior experience and builds on the success of his previous loan spell with the club.
Last season, Horan made an immediate impact for the Swans, scoring on his debut against Basingstoke Town before helping the team lift the Surrey Senior Cup with victory over Dorking Wanderers. His return has been equally positive, with Walton & Hersham currently top of their league after an outstanding start to the season.

The Swans have won 9 of their opening 11 matches, losing just once and drawing one, establishing themselves as early promotion contenders. Horan’s solid defensive efforts have been part of a team effort that has seen Walton & Hersham maintain one of the best records in the division.
With a professional deal secured and valuable minutes on loan, Horan’s development continues to move in the right direction as he looks to build on an impressive start to his senior career.
