The 27-year-old joined County in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer from Notts County. Wootton quickly became a fan favourite, scoring 14 goals in his first campaign and claiming both the Club’s Player and Players’ Player of the Year awards, despite injury cutting his season short.

Returning fit for the 2023/24 season, Wootton added a further 12 goals and eight assists. He helped Stockport County secure the League Two Championship, the first promotion of his career.

Over the course of the 23/24 season, he made 52 appearances, contributing 21 goal involvements, the most of any player in the squad. Across his career at County, he has made 88 appearances and scored 27 goals, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

First-Team Manager Dave Challinor said: “We are all delighted that Wootts has committed his future to the club. He is a huge asset to our squad in terms of what he adds on and off the pitch. He has been a model professional in his time with us and has performed consistently throughout. This new deal for a player in his peak years gives all parties the necessary security as we move forward in this exciting period together. We hope he continues to flourish in League One.”

Director of Football Simon Wilson added: “Kyle has started the season very well, but this is not a reaction to that. It was just about agreeing a fair deal for all sides. We are delighted to continue this journey together and see where it is going to take us. With the right work and application, which this man has in spades, there should be no limit on what can be achieved over the coming three years.”

Looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, Wootton has made 12 appearances in League One, starting 11 of them and playing 1,008 minutes. He has already contributed five goals, helping Stockport establish themselves comfortably in fourth place.

With his new contract secured and early-season form already promising, Kyle Wootton looks set to remain a central figure for Stockport County as the Hatters aim to build on their impressive return to League One.
